AN ART exhibition, featuring work by art, design, and ceramic students from Gort Further Education and Training Centre, East Galway Adult Literacy Centre, Loughrea, and St Dympna’s ADS, Portumna, opens today.

It has been a busy summer season at Coole Park with a variety of free walks and events throughout the season including ‘Me and Nu’ fancy dress and walks covering flowers, butterflies, history, trees, poetry, folklore, and the magic of Coole.

Culture Night is Ireland’s national celebration of culture, creativity and the arts. It takes place all over Galway city and county on Friday 21st September and sparkles well into the night. From Bofin to the Bridge of Banagher, from Bearna to Ballybane and beyond, dozens of entrancing, beguiling and enjoyable events are talking place in a truly brilliant programme that showcases the creative communities and landscapes of Galway, European Capital of Culture. The offerings this year – performances, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, classes, talks, walks and much more for all ages in every conceivable area of creativity - look to be the most exciting ever, and everything is free, brought to you with love from Galway! We’d like to offer a big thank you to all the hard-working artists and art groups, community groups, venues and volunteers who have made Culture Night 2018 possible. Week II

A number of free events will take place at Coole in the coming weeks.

Coole Park has a rich cultural heritage as the former home of Lady Augusta Gregory and the centre of the Irish Literary Revival. Its present status as a nature reserve is due to the global importance of its extensive wetland system and woodland which borders it. To celebrate both these aspects of Coole there will be two free events during the last weekend in May.

Minister of State for Justice at the Department of Justice and Equality with special responsibility for Equality, Immigration, and Integration, David Stanton, is to launch the West of Ireland Traveller History Project at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar today, October 21.

A free public performance of George Bernard Shaw's anti-war play O'Flaherty VC is among the highlights on the calendar of events this month at Coole.

The next free guided walk at Coole will be on Sunday May 29. The walk, titled ‘The Story of Coole’, is a general introduction to the history of the estate and Lady Gregory’s life at Coole.

Good news for Coole Park lovers is that the Coole Park Visitor Centre is now open again after the winter floods — opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily. Last entry to Visitor Centre is at 4.45pm. and the park gates close at 6pm.
